Once Upon a Time… a Shoe Shopping Struggle!

Two years ago, I found myself at a crossroads—not a literal one, but a personal one. I was wrapping up my first years as a young professional, full of energy, eager to make smart choices, and suddenly faced with a very practical dilemma: I needed new shoes.

Not just any shoes. I needed a comfortable, all-terrain pair for traveling (and maybe even a spontaneous run) and another stylish but responsible pair for city life. So, like most people, I instinctively turned to the usual suspects—Nike, Adidas, and other big brands. With a budget of around €100-150, I knew I could find something I liked.

But something didn’t sit right.

Did I really want to spend that money just to subsidize a brand? What if I could use that same budget to make a positive impact instead?

The Ethical Obstacle Course

What should have been a simple Google search turned into a real obstacle course. Every brand had its eco-friendly pitch, but comparing their commitments was impossible. Recycled materials versus supporting charities, local production versus fair trade… I was lost!

After hours of digging, I finally settled on a pair of Allbirds for traveling and Veja for the city. But an idea was brewing in my mind: there had to be a tool to compare brands on their ethical and eco-friendly efforts.

Wise Compass: The Guide to Informed Consumption

I needed a tool to cut through the marketing fluff and give a clear, objective way to compare brands based on their sustainability efforts. A score. A system. A wise compass to help people make informed choices based on what truly matters to them.

And just like that, the idea was born. Now, it’s time to bring it to life. 🚀
